Chief Tecumseh (Poem from Act of Valor)

The movie Act of Valor at the end, has this amazing poem by Native American Shawnee Chief, Tecumseh. I wanted to share it with you all. As a Current Military Spouse it has a special place. It’s truly amazing and I hope that it inspires you to make this life count, to pursue noble undertakings, and live to the fullest having used all your talents and have no regrets.

“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself.

Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools
and robs the spirit of its vision. When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.”

State and federal officials this morning announced a $26 billion settlement with five major U.S. banks regarding their shameless treatment of distressed homeowners and borrowers in foreclosure. The White House Announced a Plan to Help Underwater Homeowners Refinance on Their Mortgages; Do You Think This Will Help Active Duty in Hampton Roads?

The president announced his “Plan to Help Responsible Homeowners and Heal the Housing Market” initiative saying it would “give every responsible homeowner in America the chance to save about $3,000 a year on their mortgage by refinancing at historically low rates.” Basically a plan yesterday to help underwater homeowners refinance their mortgages — which they can’t do currently — and take advantage of historically low-interest rates. The $5-10 billion plan would be paid for by a fee levied on large banks. What do you think? Should the government be helping underwater borrowers? Would you utilize this program in order to get your head above water? Curious to hear your thoughts and reactions.
